Vendetta Griggs-Wilcox Obituary

On Monday, June 6, 1966 a beautiful baby girl was born to Willie and Georgia Griggs who was named Vendetta Wynise Griggs by their sister at  heart Carolyn Griggs “Beverly Ann” who was honored to be named her GODmother.  Vendetta was affectionately known by all who knew and love her as “Wyn”.   Wyn was truly the apple of her daddy’s eye. She confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age under the leadership of  the late Rev. N. J. Johnson at  St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Bell Bottom, TX  and grew up involved in all church activities, with singing in the youth choir being her favorite.  As an adult, she would often be heard singing, “I’m Looking For a Miracle”.  She later joined Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Brazoria, TX under the leadership of her cousin,  Rev. Larry D. Griggs and most recently became a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Booth, TX,  Pastor Larry D. Blackmon. Wyn graduated from Van Vleck High School in 1984. Wyn  had a love for cooking and sharing her culinary creations with all who would partake.  She was a very loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys, was a lover of fashion and was most proud to exhibit her freshly made up face and would share her many selfies with a large number of people in her phone’s contact list. In 1999, Wyn was united in holy matrimony to Haywood Lee Wilcox.

On Monday, October 7, 2024 Wyn departed this life at St. Luke’s Health - Sugar Land Hospital at the age of 58. She was preceded in death by her parents.

She leaves to continue to share love, her children: Alchelcia “Chelci” Griggs, and Delwyn Rawlings (Amanda), grandchildren, Tristan Lewis, Jr, Delwyn Rawlings, Jr, Ke’Andre’ Williams,  Devonn Rawlings, A’Niyah Lewis, Jaden Lewis, Eddie Shorty, Da’Trell Shorty and London Harris,  great-grand child, Kenzai Scott, siblings, Toni King (Ronnie), Yvette Jammer, Wayland Ray Griggs, Barbara Woodard (Kenneth Woodard, Sr), Bonus sister Jacqueline Ward, Little sister A D Higgins, GOD brothers Maurice Griggs and Jonathan Fields (Jami) , GOD sisters Michelle Drew and Gaybrielle Simmons (Cleo), aunts and uncles, Dorothy DeVaughn (Johnnie), Joyce Robinson, Louise Johnson, Ida Basey, Catherine McPherson (Eric), Earnestine Bailey (Nathan), Bertha Edison (Robert), Eddie Griggs, Jr (Gwendolyn), Elroy Griggs (Sharon), Linda Griggs, Lottie Casey, Lewis Griggs (Vivian), Benjamin Griggs, Ola Times, Carolyn Griggs, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
