In Loving Memory of
Juston La’Ronn Smith, Jr.
“Poodie”
January 29, 2002 – February 27, 2026
On January 29, 2002, a precious baby boy was born to Juston Smith, Sr. and LaVerne Tankersley. They lovingly named him Juston La’Ronn Smith, Jr., though to many who knew and loved him, he was simply known as “Poodie.”
Juston spent his early years growing up in Houston, Texas, where he attended schools in the Houston Independent School District. As a young boy, he developed a love for sports and played youth football with the Southeast Lions, where he was known as a fast, determined, and fearless little running back. Even at a young age, he showed a quiet toughness and resilience that would remain part of who he was throughout his life.
Those who knew Juston best remember a young man with a calm and gentle spirit. He did not seek attention, but his presence was always felt. He carried himself with respect, humility, and kindness, and he had a natural way of making others feel comfortable around him. His sense of humor, down-to-earth nature, and ability to bring laughter to those around him made him deeply loved by family and friends.
Juston’s childhood was surrounded by family and the special closeness he shared with his cousins. Many of their early years were spent together creating memories that would stay with them for a lifetime. Whether gathered for family time, sharing laughter, or simply enjoying the carefree moments of growing up together, those experiences helped shape the strong bond they carried into adulthood. Though related as cousins, their connection felt much deeper, rooted in love, loyalty, and the shared journey of growing up side by side.
Throughout life’s challenges, Juston showed a quiet strength. He endured hardships with a sense of calm and resilience that spoke volumes about his character. His courage was never loud, but it was steady and undeniable.
Above all else, Juston cherished his role as a father. His most precious and joyous moments were spent with his beloved son, Dakota Juelz Smith, who was truly the highlight of his life. The love he had for Dakota was deep and unconditional, and becoming a father revealed the depth of his heart. To Dakota, he was not only a father but a hero.
In his spare time, Juston enjoyed music and had a strong interest in fashion. He carried himself with quiet confidence and an easygoing personality that drew people toward him. Whether laughing with family, spending time with friends, or simply being present with those he loved, Juston had a way of making moments meaningful.
Though his time here was far too short, the love he shared and the memories he created will remain with all who knew him.
Juston was preceded in death by his loving mother, LaVerne Tankersley; his maternal grandfather, Johnny Tankersley; and his paternal grandfather, Stevie Smith, Sr.
Juston leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved son, Dakota Juelz Smith; his father, Juston Smith, Sr. (Brittany); his siblings, Jada McKnight, Jaydon Smith, and Aubrey Smith; his niece, Adelyn Brown; his paternal grandmother, Josephine Harris (Carnel); his maternal grandmother, Janice Campbell; his paternal aunts and uncles, Yvette Kyham (Kiland), Clifton Allison (Shannon), Rashaad Smith (Bethany), Stevie Smith Jr. (Amy), and Jervalis Smith; his maternal aunts and uncles, Sophia Sasser, Yolanda Tankersley, Calvin Tankersley, and Kelseo Tankersley; his special friend, Quenterica Davis; along with a host of cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts.
Juston’s life reminds us that even a quiet spirit can leave a powerful imprint on the hearts of those around them. His kindness, strength, laughter, and the love he gave to his family will never be forgotten.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his mother and resting peacefully.
His memory will live on through the love he shared, the lives he touched, and through his son, Dakota - who carries forward a part of his legacy.
Rest peacefully, Juston.
You will always be loved, always be remembered, and forever missed.
