Joan Pauline Christie was born on Wednesday, March 11, 1959, in St. Andrew, Kingston, Jamaica, to her loving parents, Icilda Manhertz and Joseph Christie. At the age of 19, Joan Pauline Christie accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at Hope Temple Pentecostal Church of God, under the leadership of Pastor Donald Walters.
There, she faithfully served by teaching Sunday school. Joan Christie attended Crandall High School in Kingston, where she earned her diploma in 1977. She later continued her spiritual education by attending Bible college. Joan relocated to Houston, Texas in March 2018, where she was joyfully reunited with her only son and extended family, beginning a new and meaningful chapter of her life. That same year, she joined her sister in worship at Acme Church, where she found spiritual connection and fellowship. Joan found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved watching African movies, attending church events, reminiscing about her cherished memories in Jamaica, cooking, relaxing, and reading her Bible. She enjoyed capturing moments through pictures and spending quality time with family and friends. Joan especially treasured the company of her grandchildren, playfully teasing her son, chatting with her sister, nieces, and best friends, shopping at her favorite store—Burlington—enjoying the scenery of the beach (even though it’s not beautiful as Jamaica), and playing her favorite game, Loodi. Joan courageously battled sickle cell disease from birth, facing each challenge with unwavering strength and grace. On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, she was peacefully called home to be with the Lord after suffering a cardiac arrest. She was lovingly reunited in heaven with her parents, Joseph Christie and Icilda Manhertz; her stepmother, Nessa Christie; her sister, Elane Claudette Christie; and her brothers, Clive Anthony Christie and Derrick Christie
